The LuLac Edition #2638, April 20th, 2014

BLOGFEST THIS FRIDAY!!!!!!!!

Do not forget about Blogfest this coming Friday. Again we’re at the Red Mill in Pittston. They have great tasting pizza, cold drinks, a nice deck and plenty of room. Kudos as usual to the movers and shakers behind Blogfest our good friends Michelle Hryvnak Davies (one of our LuLac Women We Love of 2013) and Harold Jenkins. Jenkins has been promoting blogs for a long time on WBRE TV’s Pa Live with Dave Kuharchik and Jasmine Brooks. Be sure to stop by and say hi to these two. Blogfest was the brain child of Gort 42 and Joe Valenti of Pittston Politics.com and with the help of Davies and Jenkins it has expanded enormously. You know the rules so just show up. The fun starts at 6PM.

ON HEALTH CARE: JUST THE FACTS

Ever since the Affordable Care Act team hit their goal of 7 million enrolled, the naysayers and fear merchants have been asking for numbers. Well this week the White House released these figures. They look good. So the sky has not fallen, millions of people haven't lost their jobs and grandma and grandpa aren't being confined to Nursing Homes. And by the way, those death panels.....haven't seen them yet
FACT SHEET: Affordable Care Act by the Numbers
The Affordable Care Act is working. It is giving millions of middle class Americans the health care security they deserve, it is slowing the growth of health care costs and it has brought transparency and competition to the Health Insurance Marketplace.
HEALTH CARE BY THE NUMBERS
8 million people signed up for private insurance in the Health Insurance Marketplace. For states that have Federally-Facilitated Marketplaces, 35 percent of those who signed up are under 35 years old and 28 percent are between 18 and 34 years old, virtually the same youth percentage that signed up in Massachusetts in their first year of health reform.
3 million young adults gained coverage thanks to the Affordable Care Act by being able to stay on their parents plan.
3 million more people were enrolled in Medicaid and CHIP as of February, compared to before the Marketplaces opened. Medicaid and CHIP enrollment continues year-round.
5 million people are enrolled in plans that meet ACA  standards outside the Marketplace, according to a CBO estimate. When insurers set premiums for next year, they are required to look at everyone who enrolled in plans that meet ACA standards, both on and off the Marketplace.
5.7 million people will be uninsured in 2016 because 24 States have not expanded Medicaid.
HEALTH CARE COST GROWTH IS LOWEST IN DECADES. BUT HEY, LET’S GO FOR THE LEGITIMATE SINGLE SEASON HOME RUN RECORD SET BY ROGER MARIS IN 1961 AND GO FOR 61 VOTES TO REPEAL THIS LEGISLATION IN CONGRESS.

McCORD SIGNAGE IS UP

The teacher union lackeys have put up the signs in Luzerne County this weekend for Rob McCord in his bid for Governor. Okay, let’s see some signs from the Tom Wolf people. As stated earlier by this blog editor, you can have a lot of money, a good message, a pleasing personality and all that but you need boots on the ground. Katie McGinty had Robert Kennedy Junior stumping for him, Wolf was here twice but it seems like Philadelphia's Allyson Schwartz has hit the deck and hid…at least when it comes to LuLac land.

Those Death Panels have devastated our senior population. You betcha!
File them under Mission Accomplished
and so many other bullshit fantasies.
We will always be left to wonder what Barrack Obama might have achieved with a minimum of cooperation from a party and individuals who put their selfish agenda ahead of the good of the country and the majority of the people.

Pete...I agree with you. But I also agree with Yonk too. Obama should have crushed the GOP like bugs in his first term. This crap of inviting them to Super Bowl parties and out to dinner. THEY LOST! He had the majority and kissed their white asses. I also find it interesting that the local GOP is having a candidates forum which Yonk is invited to. The local GOP has been in the doldrums for years. Yonki as a Democratic left leaning blogger has championed many local GOP candidates. But I can't help but think the craziness in Washington has something to do with why people just don't trust any Republican these days. It is a large leap to make but think of this: why would I even think of voting for any Republican local or statewide when we have two Congressman who have voted over and over again to repeal Obama care.

Obamacare is more than just a new entitlement. Charles Blahaus of economic policy think tank Economics 21 writes about just how large of an impact that its provisions will have on the economy in the future. Spending on Obamacare's coverage expansion is immediately a massive entitlement expansion, and will only get worse.

Blahaus contrasts Obamacare with our other major entitlement programs and finds that ACA spends more than all but Medicare, and does so much faster.

After these initial rollouts, Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid costs grew far faster than originally envisioned, sometimes due to subsequent legislation, sometimes due to unanticipated healthcare cost growth. It wouldn’t be surprising for either factor to affect the ACA, which would be even more problematic for reasons given below.

When new enrollment figures were released last week, the national discussion focused on whether the ACA is fulfilling its coverage expansion goals. The largely unwritten and more important story, however, is that the ACA is rapidly becoming a colossal fiscal disaster as enrollment proceeds heedless of the concurrent collapse of the law’s financing structure.

With the Obamacare rollout largely solidified and Republicans likely unable to make any major dent in the legislation until after the 2016 election - and everything might hinge on a win there - this will continue to be a drain on the federal budget, and just one more massive health entitlement.

If the rosy economic and long term health projections don't pan out, spending on coverage expansion is going to look much worse.

How can the government spend over 700 million on healthcare for 8 million people and this math is not questioned, nor the spending of our money to the corrupt millionaire government employees.

Have you noticed that congress has given Obama a blank cleck on spending and made the figures secret? We used to see the damage every 6 months or so, but not any more.

We can thank Boneher for palling up with the dictator. Boneher is more afraid of upsetting the NY Slimes then standing up to the messiah of failed hope.

Boneher and pals need to go before the house will start doing their job of fiscal management of the federal budget.

Consider: Once an Obamacare client buys their policy they must search for a doctor who is willing to live with the certainty of malpractice suits because they couldn't run tests and charge for them. After finding one, at a welfare clinic, we must pay the deductible and co-pay. How many of us are going to send in our second monthly payment?

Anybody actually USE ObamaCare yet?

Obama fell on his face and had no clue what to do with the power of his office during his first two years. This Affordable Health Care act should have been a Single Payer program and to make it work for all, it should have been a part of Medicare and the payments into the Soc Sec/Medicare programs should have NO ceiling. The private health insurance comp;anies would have done super well selling supplemental plans so all would have been great if he only had balz. He did fall on his face and this is proof that he could have done it all. What I wonder is how can the Republican party and how can working class people be so against health care for all? This is a great country and I was and still am proud of my service but it sure is frustrating to see such an attitude.

By the way, the new verification available to post is finally user friendly.

President Obama should have served them (edited) {replacement phrase:soul food} on the White House porch and told them go to hell from the get go. He foolishly thought government involved compromise and that was a naive mistake. Yonks and 11:55 are correct and I totally agree. The President was also let down by a wimpy group of useless Dems in congress and the senate specifically Reid and Pelosi!

RIP Rueben Carter. Whatever he was and whatever mistakes he made prior to incarceration, he became a Man.
He was framed and it was proven to be so. No police or prosecutors were ever called to task. Seventeen years in jail for being an arrogant tough black man and in the end He Won!
